At the 1996 Grammy Awards, Seal took home Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance awards thanks to the success of the track. It then went on to be included in the Neverending Story soundtrack and more famously in Batman Forever a year later (at which point the video was also recorded), but it wasn't created for either. It also hit the top 10 in countries like Canada, France, Iceland, and Norway. Kiss From a Rose was written long before either movie was in production, and recorded as a track for Seal's second self-titled album, released in 1994. With that connection, the song went on to top the charts in both the United States and Australia. But a year later, it was re-released in 1995 as part of a much bigger movie, the third installment in the then-latest Batman franchise, Batman Forever, starring actor Val Kilmer. It was first released in the summer of that year and it was included in the film, The NeverEnding Story III. Originally, “Kiss from a Rose” appeared on Seal’s second eponymous album, Seal II, released in 1994.
